Located in the U.S. State of Michigan, Charlevoix is a city that has an estimated population of 2,513 (according to the 2010 census). The city serves as the county seat of Charlevoix County. Most people confuse Charlevoix as to being a same entity of the Charlevoix Township. However, both the city and township are separate municipal entities. The township just surrounds the city and has a population of 1,697. This article is focused on the Charlevoix city that proves to a high seasonal tourist attraction in the summer. The history of the city can be traced back to the 1850s.

During the 19th century, the area that was soon to be named Charlevoix was a European-American settlement that was initially a top spot for fishermen. Soon after its formation, the city underwent numerous civil wars with commercial and cultural transformation not beginning until the 1869. It was during this time, the city became an active port of entry and among the busiest ports on the Great Lakes. By 1910, considerable progress had been made.

Railway tracks were setup, which brought tourist traffic during the summer. Fast-forwarding to recent times, the city is a top spot for many local businesses and is famed for its annual events, which include the Petunia Planting, Venetian, Apple Fest, Car Raffle, and Art and Craft Show. Tourist destinations in the area include the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, the Ironton Ferry, Traverse City, Horton Bay, Harbor Springs, Lake Charlevoix, and Beaver Island.
